Gib Wood (Bro. Woody) . . . Raised on a dairy farm in Brunswick, Maine, his family was Quaker and his only real contact with church was through Vacation Bible School and Christmas and Easter programs. As a teenager, his first real contact with the Gospel came through the ministry of the Woolwich-Wisscassett Baptist Church. It wasn't until he was stationed at Sembach Air Base in Germany that he saw how a relationship with Christ could make a difference in his life. Through the witness of some fellow firemen, Gib began to understand his personal need to trust the Lord. September 3, 1978 saw him on the back row of the Rheinland Baptist Church as a lost church member. When Pastor George Zane preached and gave the invitation in the evening service, the Lord had his full attention, and he trusted Christ that night. Kathy and Woody began dating shortly afterwards, and were married on June 21, 1980. Even before leaving Germany, it was obvious to both of them that the Lord would have them return to minister to the American military. The Wood's were accepted by Baptist Missions to Forgotten Peoples in 1982. After Bro. Woody completed Bible college, their family came to Germany in October, 1986. Bro. Woody has served as our pastor since June, 1991.
Kathy Wood . . . Although she was born in Montana, Kathy claims Tennessee as home. She has spent most of her life in Germany. She was saved as a young girl at the Landstuhl (Germany) Bible Baptist Church in December 1969. Her dad, Dr. Wilbur McBride, was in the Air Force at the time, and had been saved just a couple of weeks earlier, on Thanksgiving night in Heilbronn, Germany. After Bro. McBride retired from the Air Force, they moved to Tennessee so that he could attend Tennessee Temple Schools. Their family returned to Germany in 1978 as missionaries to the military and that is when she met Bro. Woody. They began dating, and were married in June 1980. The Lord has given them four children: Karin, Audra, Andrew, and Keith; A son in law, Jonathan Lindstam; and two grandchildren: Judah and Joel.
